In today’s global and digital world, the Education Especially Technical Education plays vital role.  Directorate of Technical Education offers various Technical Programmes and Courses at Diploma, Graduate, Post-Graduate and Research level for building careers in various socio-economic sectors.  

The Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra State has been established to formulate the policies, rules, guidelines in accordance with State and Central Governments directives and execute it accordingly. Under the umbrella of the Directorate, there are around 1600 Technical Institutions spread across the State of Maharashtra. There are six regional Technical Education Offices viz. Amravati, Aurangabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Nashik and Pune.

The objective of the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra is to uphold and enhance the quality of technical education by defining policies, developing infrastructure at government institutions, guiding private institutions, enhancing interactions with industry, professional bodies and national level institutions of repute. The Directorate has been instrumental in ensuring the successful implementation of various Government Schemes of scholarship for the economically backward, minority and women students enrolled in different courses. Adding to its kitty of financial activity, the Directorate has credited itself by conducting industry funded CSR programs. It has aptly handled, disbursed and monitored the various projects like CIIILP, phases of TEQIP and have utilized the finances for the betterment of technical education in the state of Maharashtra.

To ensure quality in Technical Education, the Directorate has participated in various Central Government’s Technical Education Quality Education Program (TEQIP), granting Autonomy to the Government & Aided Institutions, forming State Level Technical University (Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University (DBATU)) as well as Unitary Technical University (COEP Tech University). The Directorate also coordinates with other states and National Departments and Organizations and contributes to the coherent development of industry and the society at large.

The Directorate is constantly involving in providing quality of technical education, under Industry Institute Interactions signed MoU with Infosys and NASSCOM for providing industry standard online training & courses in thrust areas for all students across State of Maharashtra for increasing employability of the students. The Directorate shall continue its quest to achieve excellence and work tirelessly to safeguard and guarantee the delivery and impart of quality, career and job oriented technical education to the energetic youth of Maharashtra.

National Education Policy (NEP 2020) aims to transform the present educational scenario in the nation and mould the students into able Citizens of the 21st Century. The Directorate has already aligned itself with apex regulating bodies like AICTE, UGC, PCA and COA and with the affiliating Universities for initiating the transformation. Our focus will be on Skill intensive, flexible and student centric, multi-disciplinary Engineering Education System aided by latest digital technologies. NEP has also given special attention to inclusion of human values, scientific temperament, Indian Languages, Indian Knowledge System, aiming towards holistic development of the Students. Equal attention will be given to provide facilities for Sports, Yoga, pursuing interest in Arts and Music, etc. Teachers are the most integral part of this entire ecosystem. Hence capability development of teachers, their regular training, etc. will also be prioritised. Thus the Directorate aims to play a key role in implementation of the NEP2020 and thereby transforming the present system of Technical Education in the State. 

As the Director, I look forward to continue to embrace cooperation, coordination, collaboration & corroboration from all the partners of technical education in the state and those at the helm at the national level for creating able technocrats for the future.
